Mercedes Benz GLS Class Ultimate Buying Guide

Mercedes GLS

The three-row GLS-Class is Mercedes’ largest SUV. It offers larger and more seating capacity than expensive G-Class. The model started as the GL class in 2006 and became the GLS in the middle of the second generation of the 2016 model. The 2023 GLS class, now in its third generation, is in the  GLS450 format as global supply chain issues have forced Mercedes to stop selling its V-8-powered machines, such as his AMG GLS63 and Maybach GLS600.

Used vs New

The GLS-class SUV generally offers more space than the BMW X7, both of which compete in the segment like the relatively large Lincoln Navigator and the even larger Cadillac Escalade. You can’t match the space of The GLS450 as it has advantages . But the X7 maximizes cargo space with both rows of rear seats folded down. However, both German made Mercedes options have third-row seats that fold down slowly.

Technology

The GLS SUV sits at the top of Mercedes’ traditional premium SUV range (that doesn’t mean a Maybach or a G-Wagen). So expect standard features like heated and ventilated front seats with memory, no-touch power tailgate, keyless entry, and remote start.

Features such as air-sprung and adaptive damper suspension are standard, windows that can be opened by remote control, and electrically folding door mirrors with logo projectors underneath take the GLS.

The 2022 GLS450’s standard infotainment system features 13 Burmester speakers, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen. The instrument cluster also has a standard 12.3-inch display, eight USB-C ports, and a 115V outlet.

Options include five-zone climate control available, quick heated and massage front seats, second-row seat heaters, first and second-row armrest heaters, front cup holder heaters and coolers, steering wheel heater, and soft Add-ons such as closing doors and heads-up displays.

Power Train

Apart from the updates mentioned in the previous paragraph, the 2022 model year GLS class has been removed from most  V-8 engines. This leaves GLS-Class 2022  with only one configuration/instrument of his, the GLS450. However, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS450 has a mild-hybrid 3.0-liter inline-six turbocharged engine paired with an integrated starter-generator electric motor.

The petrol engine alone produces 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Elsewhere, an integrated starter-generator electric motor delivers up to 21 horsepower for gas-free sailing and energy recovery during deceleration. The powertrain is combined with a 9-speed AT “9G-TRONIC” with a paddle shift. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via fully variable 4MATIC all-wheel drive.

Fuel Economy

The GLS SUV sits at the top of Mercedes’ traditional premium SUV range (that doesn’t mean a Maybach or a G-Wagen). So expect standard features like heated and ventilated power front seats with memory, no-touch power tailgate, keyless entry, and remote start. Features such as standard air-sprung and adaptive damper suspension, windows that can be opened by remote control, and electrically folding door mirrors with logo projectors underneath take the GLS to a new level.

Trim

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS is a powerful and spacious car that will appeal to large families and those who love to travel. But which disguise is the right choice for you? Look at this high-performance SUV and see which features you make more attractive. You can choose from two disguises: 450 4MATIC®* and  580 4MATIC.

The GLS 450 4MATIC®* offers a powerful 3.0-liter turbo and EQ Boost engine. This engine puts out 362 hp and 369 lb.-ft. Of torque. It also has standard 19-inch wheels; he can optionally upgrade to 21- or 22-inch wheels. As impressive as the 450 4MATIC sounds, you’ll notice a performance boost with the 580 4MATIC®*. However, they both have the same 21 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft.

Which One We Would Recommend

A Mercedes V-8 isn’t an option in the near term, but the GLS450’s turbocharged straight-six mild hybrid powertrain is nothing to scoff at. In his GLS450 rating in the 2020 SUV of the year competition, the engine and his 9-speed automatic transmission worked seamlessly together to achieve his 0-60 mph time of 5.8 seconds. BMW X7 xDrive40i.

Plus, with the available E-Active Body Control suspension, the big SUV feels great in your hand and stays flat in corners. The E-Active Body Control also features a free driving mode (aka “bounce” mode) to help you get out of deep mud or snow when your ute is stuck.

High-frequency shocks could not be sufficiently absorbed. The steering feel of the 2022 GLS450 is also on the soft side. But the cabin is quiet, stylish, and most spacious, except for his third row, which is child-sized.

The second-row power slide can be a little snappy, and the MBUX infotainment system is a letdown, but the leather upholstery is soft to the touch, and the seat pad is highly praised. His GLS450 for 2022  is the capable, practical, and comfortable place you’d expect from a two-time SUV of the Year winner.

If you prefer a full-size  SUV, the GLS Class is for you. For 2021, Mercedes has unveiled a classy Mercedes-Maybach version and a 603-horsepower Autobahn Special. The GLS class is equipped with 6- and 8-cylinder Bi-turbo engines.

Mercedes’ flagship SUV is designed with a wide variety of safety features for assisting the driver in an emergency. All models come standard with automatic emergency braking, automatic parking assistance, a 360-degree camera system, and blind spot monitoring.

Most GLS models can carry seven passengers in three rows. You can also order her GLS580 and AMG GLS63, which come with a second-row captain’s chair, to reduce capacity to six. All GLS has a dual display dashboard available from Mercedes.

  1. I was curious if you think the prices of car will end up falling in 2023 or 2024? Or do you think they will still continue to increase? I’ve been doing some research and agree that the GLS so far looks like the best buy for the money. I just don’t want to over pay.
